Since 2011, Portland musician Michael Herrman has been teaching Kabul, Afghanistan’s children all about American rock music. Sound Studies Program is a non-profit organization, aimed at unifying Kabul’s communities. The School is the city’s only alternative music center, bridging the gap of Western, and Eastern music to it’s citizens. The School is also home to many of Afghanistan’s new and upcoming artists, songwriters, and producers, while hosting guest lectures for it’s students. The Sound Studies Program has allowed for a creative freedom in a nation that undermines expression and free will, hoping to change the future of Afghanistan’s youth. On Monday, August 12, the school will be hosting the 1st Annual benefit show here in Los Angeles at the Rockwell Table &Stage in Los Feliz at 8pm. Ticket prices are $20 and all proceeds will benefit the school. The show will feature Herman’s own band, Buoy LaRue along with Ariana Delwari, Oracle, and several other guests. The show will also feature a silent auction.
